The Sokoban playbook

Make Sokoban your next activity in the game library. Push every crate onto a target. Look at what changes after your first action. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

Practice with a purpose

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Push every crate onto a target. The feedback beside the game helps you follow the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Making your moves

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

How to use the controls

Arrow keys or direction buttons. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.

Work through an example

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Look for the relevant detail.

Keep this in mind

Consider the player’s access behind crates. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
