Getting started with Ludo

Choose a round of Ludo and settle into its rules. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Look at what changes after your first action. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Look at what changes after your first action.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Try a more deliberate round

Choose one rule to keep in mind for this round. Apply it consistently rather than guessing what another version might allow. Notice the feedback after each input.

The purpose of your moves

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Check the rules when you are unsure.

Follow these playing steps

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Making selections and moves

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. A careful first action helps you become familiar with the layout. Look at the feedback after the action.

A closer look at one example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Consider the next action carefully.

One detail worth checking

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
