A practical guide to Klondike Solitaire

Make Klondike Solitaire your next activity in the game library. Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Use the example below to understand a decision. Compare the starting position with the example in the Guide. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.

One deck; draw-one or draw-three stock; waste recycling. Free solo play, no wagering.

Practice with a purpose

Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your objective

Build four suit foundations from ace to king. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Start with a deliberate move.

Start here and follow along

  1. Build down in alternating colours; kings fill empty columns. Valid ordered runs move together.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Controls

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Use one clear input at a time.

See how the rules apply

A red 6 fits a black 7, not another red 7. Compare this with the rule that governs the move. Read the matching step again.

A mistake to avoid

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
