Canfield Solitaire: from controls to your first round

Read the aim of Canfield Solitaire, then make your first move. Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Make your first input carefully and watch the result. Look at what changes after your first action.

Thirteen reserve cards, four columns, draw-three recyclable stock. Free solo play, no wagering.

Something to practise

Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board. Keep the objective visible.

What you need to achieve

Complete four suited foundations beginning at the dealt base rank and wrapping king to ace. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. The example below illustrates a decision.

How a round unfolds

  1. Build tableau runs down in alternating colours, wrapping ace to king. Reserve cards refill empty columns automatically.
  2. Select a face-up card and then the destination pile or Empty slot.
  3. Use foundations where available; full Spider or Scorpion runs clear automatically.
  4. Undo reverses a choice. New deal shuffles again.

Your inputs

Click or tap cards and piles. Wide tableaus scroll inside the game; use Undo, Hint and New deal where shown. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Return to the rules if the result is unexpected.

A useful example

With base rank 5, a foundation runs 5 through king, then ace through 4. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Choose a deliberate next step.

A useful caution

Random deals are not guaranteed solvable. A hint is a legal move, not a winning strategy. Compare the situation with the worked example. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
